The Medical City Cancer Center Palliative Care Unit and Nursing Services Division, Hospice Philippines and Aesculap Academy Philippines invites Registered nurses who are interested in providing care to and maintaining the quality of life of clients with life-limiting disease to attend a seminar entitled "Palliative Care and Home Care Nursing" on August 31, 2009-September 15, 2009 at Aesculap Academy, JMT Building, ADB Ave., Ortigas Center, Pasig City, Philippines. Didactics & Practicum are scheduled as follows: 31 August-04 September 2009 Home Visit and Written Exam: 14-15 September 2009.

The Post-graduate Certificate on Palliative and Home Care Nursing seeks to equip registered nurses with the knowledge, attitudes and skills that imrpove the quality of life of patients facing life-threatening illnessess and their significant others. This is achieved through the consideration of the whole person including physical, psychosocial and spiritual aspects of care and attention to the prevention and relief of suffering.

The objectives of the post-graduate courses are:

1. To improve knowledge and develop nursing skills that improve the quality of life of patients facing life-threatening illnesses and their families, in various settings (outpatient, inpatient and home care);
2. To develop communication skills for dealing with psychosocial and end of life issues;
3. To develop attitudes for dealing with ethical challenges and for providing spiritual care at the end of life.

The content of the post-graduate course comprises seven domains in order to achieve a basic level of theoretical and clinical competencies in palliative and home care nursing:

* Basics of Palliative Care and Palliative Care Nursing
* 'Total Pain' Assessment and Control
* Symptom Assessment and Management
* Psychosocial and Spiritual Aspects
* Ethical Issues
* Communication
* Teamwork and Self-reflection

    This is fascinating.
    I’d been taught that left-aligned labels are preferred, to support the prototypical F-shaped eye-tracking heatmap of web browsing. The idea is that it supports easy vertical scanning.
